CIT Dermaroller FAQ

A Cosmetic Revolution: CIT Dermaroller

The Scientia Derma Roller (CIT Dermaroller) is a fantastic device which has the incredible power to naturally stimulate collagen and elastin production in the top layers of the skin without damaging it. A CIT Dermaroller can be used by either men or women and has several beneficial effects:

QUESTION? What do stretch marks, scars, wrinkles and uneven skin have in common?

ANSWER: A lack of collagen! If your skin would manufacture more collagen then you wouldn’t develop them. Occasional use of a CIT Dermaroller givesnature a helping hand by triggering the production of collagen in the skin, which will help prevent / reverse their formation.

Even the celebrities of Hollywood are using cosmetic microneedle therapy to give their skin a youthful and healthy glow. Quite possibly the most high profile showbiz personalities rumoured to have undergone CIT Dermaroller treatment are Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

What is the Scientia Derma Roller / CIT Roller?

The Scientia Derma Roller (or CIT Roller) is a precision engineered medical device, with the simplicity necessary to use in the comfort and privacy of your own home. It is based on a simple hand-held roller with 192 surgical steel microneedles which are able to part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. Your skin pores return to normal about 45 minutes to an hour later, but for that time window, your skin is significantly better able to absorb and benefit from skin creams and lotions.

The diagram shown below shows a close-up view of the device. The needles are only 1 millimetre long so all you feel is a tickling feeling when the Scientia Derma Roller is used.

Micro needling of the skin is an increasingly routine cosmetic therapy, but the Scientia Derma Roller is an FDA approved application which is simple enough that anyone can operate it at home. As a matter of fact, it has comparable results to Chemical Peels, Laser Treatment, and Dermabrasion, but it is much less invasive and is only a small part of the cost.

How does the CIT Dermaroller Give You Better Skin?

As you roll the Dermaroller across your skin, it creates microscopic punctures into the dermis – most of which are just pushing your pores open temporarily. Your skin perceives this as damage, which triggers off the release of growth factors that stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Your body has evolved to react to any damage or injury by initiating the healing process, but usually it will only mend as far as is necessary to keep you healthy – which is completely different to healing to a cosmetic level. By constantly stimulating this healing mechanism, you prompt your skin to continue healing until the task is completed.

Your skin typically accepts that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are fine, but with a gentle frequent reminder brought about by the CIT Dermaroller the skin is tricked into continuing the healing process until the body has also repaired itself on a cosmetic level. This mechanism of remodelling can continue for many weeks after each CIT Roller session, but visible results can be seen within a week or two! Your skin naturally renews itself every forty days, so with a little bit of effort, changes can be dramatic and fast.

Cosmetic micro needling with a CIT Dermaroller can be done safely on all skin colours and all skin types. Other treatments often need to avoid delicate areas – like the backs of the hands, around the eyes and the neck, but with a shorter microneedle size a Scientia Derma Roller can be used on all of these areas. The epidermis and melanocytes in the basal area are not harmed, so there’s no possibility of post inflammatory hyper pigmentation.

So How do you use a Scientia Derma Roller?

The Scientia Derma Roller process is simple and can be comfortably done in your own home. Take a look at our CIT Dermaroller Instructions page for more details.

So how soon does the Scientia Derma Roller give me results?

As you would imagine, the speed you will achieve noticeable results depends on what you are treating along with how far the skin has to remodel the area in question. The process of skin remodelling has been known to continue for numerous weeks after each Derma Roller session, but noticeable improvements can be observed within 7 to 10 days! Your skin automatically renews itself every forty days, so with a bit of effort changes can be hugely rewarding.

So does the skin rolling process hurt? or make you bleed?

There are two ways to use the CIT Dermaroller. One method requires the application of cream to numb the area, which allows more forceful use of the CIT Dermaroller once each week. The second alternative, requires the use of the CIT Dermaroller with only light pressure up to 5 times each week. Using the roller softly gives you a tickling feeling and is not painful – but your facial area is more sensitive to it than your body.

Neither method should make you bleed. You may notice a temporary reddening of the skin for up to an hour after each session and it may create a feeling similar to mild sunburn. We advocate the application of sunscreen / block after use. Take a look at our CIT Dermaroller Instructions page for more details.

Can a Scientia CIT Dermaroller heal stretch marks?

Stretch mark removal is only one of the countless benefits associated with the use of a Scientia CIT Dermaroller. Stretch marks come about when the skin is forced to stretch stretched rapidly. The outermost layer of skin isn’t affected, but the dermis beneath becomes thinner and develops tiny tears. The capillaries that lie under the skin show through, which gives the stretchmarks a reddish colour. A short time later, when the blood vessels constrict, the purplish colour can fade to a paler skin tone.

The most common triggers for stretch marks are pregnancy (around 75 to 90% of women develop stretch marks at some point during pregnancy), adolescent growth spurts, fast muscle growth in athletes and weight loss or gain in body weight.

The process of reducing stretch marks or the treatment of stretch marks happens as the Scientia CIT Dermaroller triggers the production of more elastin and collagen fibres in the skin. The stretch marks gradually fill in, the skin thickens, tightens and the elasticity is returned. The speed at which stretch marks reduction can be achieved is related to the severity of the case, but visible changes can be seen in as little as a week with dramatic results in a month or less.

Please see our Dermaroller Diary page which shows sequential images of the excellent results that can be achieved when using a CIT Dermaroller to treat stretch marks.
