CIT Derma Roller Frequently Asked Questions

A Beauty Revolution: CIT Derma Roller

The Scientia Derma Roller (CIT Derma Roller) is a simple instrument which can naturally bring about collagen and elastin production in the skin without causing any damage. A CIT Derma Roller can be used by both women and men and has several beneficial effects:

QUESTION? What do wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and uneven skin have in common?

ANSWER: A lack of collagen! If your skin would produce more collagen then you wouldn’t get them. Frequent use of a CIT Derma Roller offersnature a helping hand by stimulating the production of collagen in the skin, which can help reverse or prevent their formation.

Even the celebrities of Hollywood are using cosmetic microneedle therapy to give them a youthful and healthy glow. Maybe the most high profile celebrities rumoured to have CIT Derma Roller therapy are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

What is the Scientia Derma Roller / CIT Roller?

The Scientia Derma Roller (or CIT Roller) has the features of a precision engineered medical device, but with the ease of use necessary to use in the comfort and privacy of your home. It is based on a simple hand-held roller which has 192 surgical steel micro-needles which can part the pores of the top layer of the skin without damaging it. The pores return to normal approximately 45 minutes to an hour later, but during that time, your skin is significantly better able to absorb and benefit from skin care creams and lotions.

The picture shown below shows a magnified view of the device. The micro needles are just 1 millimetre in length so all you feel is a tickling feeling when the Scientia Derma Roller is used.

Micro-needling of the skin is becoming a far more routine cosmetic treatment, but the Scientia Derma Roller is an FDA approved application which is user-friendly enough that you can carry it out at home. As a matter of fact, it has very similar results to Laser Therapy, Chemical Peels and Dermabrasion, but it is much less invasive and carries only a small part of the cost.

Exactly how does the CIT Derma Roller Give You Better Skin?

As you roll the Dermaroller across your skin, it makes pin point punctures into the dermis – most of which are simply temporarily opening your pores. Your skin perceives this as damage, which triggers the release of growth factors that, in turn, stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Your body has evolved to react to any injury or damage by initiating the process of healing, but usually it will just repair as far as is required to keep you healthy – which is totally different to healing to a cosmetic level. By frequently triggering this repair mechanism, you ask your skin to continue repairing until the job is finished.

Your skin normally assumes that scars, stretch marks and wrinkles are fine, but with the gentle weekly reminder brought about by the CIT Derma Roller your skin is tricked into continuing the healing process until the body has also healed itself on a cosmetic level. This mechanism of skin remodelling can keep working for literally months after each Dermaroller treatment, however, detectable results can be seen within 7 – 10 days! Your skin naturally renews itself every 40 days, so with a little bit of effort, the changes can be fast and dramatic.

Skin micro needling with the CIT Derma Roller can be done safely on all types of skin and all colours of skin. Other treatments typically have to avoid sensitive areas – for example the backs of the hands, around the eyes and the neck, but with a lower microneedle length the Scientia Derma Roller can be used on each of these zones. The epidermis and melanocytes in the basal area of the skin are not harmed, so there’s no possibility of post inflammatory hyper pigmentation.

This cycle of skin remodelling can continue for numerous weeks after each CIT Derma Roller treatment, but noticeable changes may be seen within around 7 days! Your skin naturally renews itself every 40 days, so with a few sessions changes can be dramatic and fast.

So does the skin rolling process hurt? or make you bleed?

There are two ways to use your CIT Derma Roller. The first method requires the application of numbing cream to numb the area, which allows more vigorous use of the CIT Derma Roller at most once per week. The second alternative, requires the use of the CIT Derma Roller with only light force up to perhaps 5 times a week. Using the roller lightly gives a tingling sensation and is not painful – however, your facial area is more sensitive to it than your body.

Neither method should make you bleed. You may detect a temporary reddening of the skin for about an hour after dermal rolling and it has been known to give a feeling a bit like mild sunburn. We recommend the application of sunblock or sunscreen after rolling. Visit the Derma Roller Instructions page for more details.

Can the Scientia Derma Roller really remove stretch marks?

Stretchmark removal is only one of the many benefits associated with the use of the Scientia Derma Roller. Stretch marks occur when the skin is forced to stretch stretched suddenly. The outermost layer of skin isn’t affected, but the dermis beneath becomes thinner and develops small tears. The blood vessels that lie under the surface of the skin show through, giving the stretchmarks a reddish colour. Later on, when the capillaries constrict, the purplish colour can fade to silvery white.

The most common causes of stretch marks are pregnancy (around 75 to 90% of women develop stretch marks as part of their pregnancy), growth spurts in teenagers, swift muscle growth in weight lifters and weight loss or weight gain.

The process of healing stretch marks or the reduction of stretch marks happens as the Scientia Derma Roller triggers the production of more elastin and collagen fibres in the skin. The stretch marks gradually fill in, the skin thickens, becomes tighter and elasticity is returned. The speed at which stretch marks removal can be achieved is dependent upon the severity of the stretchmarks, but visible changes can be detected in as little as a week with dramatic results in a month or less.

No. Not all skin rollers are the same. Some do not have FDA certification that the Scientia CIT Derma Roller does. Alternative cheaper skin rollers are frequently disposable and are not made to the same specification of surgical steel (as a result, they could blunt or break), and most concerning is whether or not they are gamma sterilized. The Scientia Derma Roller is made to the highest specification so that it can be reused intensively for 12 to 24 weeks. It is manufactured / quality controlled in accordance with ISO/CE/FDA standards and gamma sterilised according to ISO 11137.
